10 GOOD REASONS

10 GOOD REASONS FOR MECHANICAL GALVANIZING:

1. Excellent Adhesion and controlled uniformity of coating thickness:
Sacrificial metal coating is applied with coverage to all surfaces of the part to the corners recesses, threaded areas as well as to the flat, more exposed regions. Threaded peaks especially show no build-up plating thickness. They or other sharp points have uniform thickness you want in plating. Because mechanical plating is so uniform, you can save money by coating at lower average thickness. Parts weighing up to three pound and measuring with a longest dimension up to eighteen inches can be handled, including some that are usually rack excessive build-up o plating on protruding points of the part and leave other areas with thinner spot more vulnerable to corrosion.

2. No hydrogen embrittlement:
Because Mechanical Galvanizing is an extension of mechanical plating technology; it does not produce hydrogen embrittlement and does not require lengthy non-reliable post-plate baking cycles.

3. No detempering:
Mechanical Galvanizing is a room temperature process that does not detemper heat-treated parts. Mechanical Galvanizing does not fill valleys of threaded fasteners and their parts mate quickly and easily.

4. Eliminate retapping of units:
In hot-dip galvanizing, threads must be cut or chased after galvanizing, robbing them of protection and requiring extra expense. Mechanical Galvanizing produces parts that are ready to use without any further processing steps.

5. No Galling:
Because of the composite nature of mechanical coating, this naturally lubricated coating will not gall, producing more accurate torque-tension relationship.

6. No Sticking:
In hot-dip galvanizing, molten zinc often fuses parts together, resulting in lost time, effort and materials. By contrast, mechanical galvanizing keeps parts functional as delivered, eliminating the need for extra assemblies (up to 30% with hot-dip process).

7. Excellent Corrosion Protection:
For equivalent thickness, mechanical galvanized is equal or superior to conventional galvanizing methods.

8. Pos-Plate Treatment:
Coating may be treated with any conventional post-plate treatment, including inline chromating and/r waxing.

9. Batch to batch conformity:
No time variables common with hot-dip. Thickness depends only on the amount of zinc powder.

10. Overall Appearance:
Overall appearance of mechanical galvanizing is superior to the overall appearance of hot galvanizing. Appearance is uniform comparatively smooth with a satiny texture and has none of the discolored and mottled effect o hot-dip galvanizing.

10 GOOD REASONS FOR MECHANICAL PLATING:

1. The most important reason for mechanical plating is the assurance of product reliability through the elimination of hydrogen embrittlement. Mechanical plating is he method preferred by many engineers for hardened fasteners and stressed components.

2. No baking needed:
Plating does not require the added production step and cost of non-reliable post plated baking, as is the case with electroplating. Parts breakages because of hydrogen embrittlement need not be a problem of parts are plated mechanically and are not used for a minimum of 48 hours after plating.

3. The Ability to plate parts, which tangle the glass impact media used in the process, tends to prevent parts from tangling. This mechanical plating process characteristically makes this technology an ideal choice for plating hardened steel springs.

4. Provide heavy-duty corrosion resistance:
If an application requires torqueing, exposure to vibration or any handling that could rupture a finish, mechanical plating provides durable metal coating with excellent adhesion. Even if the mechanical plating finish is scratched, there is still galvanic protection for the base metal. The base metal is less chemically active s o that the coating corrodes first.

5. The ability to plate flat parts:
The media prevents flat parts from masking one another, making sure that all surfaces are plated. This makes mechanical plating an ideal process for plating flat stampings and washers.

6. Mechanical plating has the ability to plate sintered metal parts (powder metallurgy) without costly impregnation.

7. Deburring is a bonus:
Some installations can increase stamping runs from the same die-sets and eliminate barrel or vibratory finishing steps in deburring. The tumbling action during plating provides some deburring of parts and saves you money.

8. The ability to plate zinc, cadmium, tin or lead any mixture of these materials. One particularly notable example is 25/75 cadmium/zinc which (in an 0.5 mil coating with a yellow chromate conversion coating) can be expected to last thousands of hours in salt spray and be free from red rust after 5 years of environmental exposure.

9. Mechanical plated arts can be given post plate treatment of dichromate dye for color-coding and phosphate for improved paint adhesion and waxing.

10. We, as qualified professionals, can plate low carbon steel, cold rolled steel, high carbon heat-treated steel, various tool steels, high strength alloys, free-mechanical steels (including leaded steels).
